ACCELERATING THE CLEAN ENERGY TRANSITION
DemRes stands for Demand Response and is a platform that enables electricity consumers to significantly reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs. It was co-founded by two Irish energy engineering students, Ben Ralph and Tadhg Crowley. DemRes is currently representing Ireland at the Red Bull Basement 2020 Global Finals.
Renewable sources such as wind and solar are key facilitators of the clean energy transition, but suffer with intermittency and a lack of grid scale storage. Currently, huge portions of this clean energy is wasted from people not matching their demand to its supply. This increases our dependence on carbon intensive sources, such as coal and gas, leading to increased climate change.
DemRes allows users to make significant, tangible reductions to their carbon footprint. The app continuously monitors real-time grid data, autonomously powering up household appliances during periods of peak renewables generation. Users can share their progress with friends and compete for rewards offered from partnered local businesses by achieving certain carbon footprint reductions.
